Davis: Jones wants 'softer side' of LHW

Phil Davis is coming off a win over Lyoto Machida. Machida is just one of a number of fighters who, curiously, lost to Davis, and went on to big fights, often in another division.

"Alex. Machida, Li'l Nog, Brian Stann, Tim Boetsch, all those guys, they've done good for themselves," said DAVIS. "I'm their good luck charm or something."

Up next for Davis is Anthony Johnson, on the main card of UFC 172 on April 26.

"He's not the guy I wanted," said Davis said. "But pretty much everyone else was booked, so it wasn't a huge surprise, but it was like, I'll take it at this point."

Davis says UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones is avoiding the toughest part of his division these days.

"He wants more of the softer side of the division," said Davis on Friday.

"Most people would rematch (vs. Gustafsson). But he said, forget about that, forget about you.' I find that interesting. Very interesting."

"Glover's a big, scary guy. And he swings hard, and that doesn't make for happy afternoons. So, that's a tough fight for him. He's not ready for it."

"I mean listen, it can be any combination of title things that get you a title shot. Apparently fighting Roy Nelson and then fighting Pat Cummins gets you a title shot. Maybe beating no one in the top 10 like Glover did gets you a title shot. There's no rhyme or reason to getting a title shot. So, beating the number one contender does not get you a title shot. At this point, I don't really care, I think I'm in the best in the world so I'll just keep fighting whoever they put in the cage."

Let me see if I got this right...He fought Shogun, rampage, machida, Vitor (stopped all of them), rashad, chael, and gusta. Now he is about to fight Glover. Sounds like the softer side of 205 to me for sure.I have never liked Jones and unless he change his attitude and way he carries himself, I never will. I am no fan. I also understand that Davis is relying to hype a potential fight in the future...That being said, I don't think it's a good idea to make yourself look borderline retarded with a statement like that. I've heard some doozies in my time but Jesus christ....softer side of 205? Yeah Davis you're a real killer compared to that list I gave above. Good one, buddy.

What I was thinking... And not to mention the murders row jones faced prior.Yes Phil, Jones wants the "softer side" that's why he would like to fight you.

He got a contender fight and was thoroughly outclassed in it by Rashad. His current win streak had 2 easy opponents for him and a pretty uneventful decision the vast majority think he should have lost against Machida. What is he owed that he hasn't gotten?

Glover is the only killer at 205 and Jones is getting ready to fight him, don't know what Davis is talking about.

Look at his record and the people he's beat. Even if he's boring, wins should warrant another title shot. And don't you think he's learned from the Rashad fight. Plus he went all the way with someone who KO'd Rashad and beat Lil Nog who beat Rashad. So even by stupid mma math he's credible.
