Melvin Guillard shines in the UFC record book

Ferocious striker Melvin Guillard fights two-time JUCO All American wrestler Michael Johnson in the co main event of UFC Fight Night 37, which streams on UFC Fight Pass in North America.

Johnson is on a two-fight win streak, over Joe Lauzon and Gleison Tibau. Guillard is functionally on a  two-fight win streak as well, knocking out Mac Danzig and then knocking down  Ross Pearson, before an unintentional but illegal knee to the head on the great led to a No Contest.

Below, Mike Bohn for MMA Junkie, notes some records Guillard holds, that not even he may have known.

•Saturday will be Guillard's 22nd fight, the record for the lightweight division. In fact, it is the record for all divisions under 170.

•He will be tied for 7th most UFC fights, behind Tito Ortiz (27), Matt Hughes (25), Randy Couture (24), Chuck Liddell (23), Josh Koscheck (23) and Frank Mir (23).

•Fourth shortest average fight time in UFC lightweight history (6:16).

•Third most wins in UFC lightweight history (11), behind Gleison Tibau (13) and Jim Miller (12).

•Most knockdowns in UFC lightweight history (13). Third overall, behind  Anderson Silva (17) and Chuck Liddell (14).

•Most KOs in UFC lightweight history (7).

•Tied for most submission losses in UFC history (6, with Ryan Jensen).

Always excited when I see Melvin's name on a card. Didn't know his stats though, impressive.

The best thing that happened to Ross was the unintentional illegal knee. Melvin was about to put him away.

Good question, itd be a smart move to give Manhoef a chance and let him put on some good fights. But if he's losing fights to Brock Larson he would not cut it for long at 170 or 185 in the UFC

You don't by any chance have a passing childhood familiarity with Beano do you? ;-)

Ross Pierson was not out of that fight. To say otherwise is misleading.

Never said he had to win a belt. He is like manoeff with not as good of striking. Why isn't manoeff in the ufc?

Cus he puts on great fights and is still more talented than half of the division. That kind of thinking, cut anyone who won't win the belt, is whats making MMA less exciting

I think some of the mental stuff is overblown with him. His striking defense and ground game aren't great and that's hurt him more than anything.
