Pettis: I'm going to knock Melendez out

Anthony Pettis will square off in a coaching gig against Gilbert Melendez on the next season of TUF, and then fight him for the lightweight title. Pettis will hope to beat him as a coach and then knock him out in their fight:

“I’m not going to take him down,” he said at a Q&A session this past Friday prior to the weigh-ins for UFC 171 in Dallas. “I’m probably going to knock him out.”

That’s not to say Pettis thinks it’s going to be easy to stop the former Strikeforce champion and onetime UFC title challenger, who coaches opposite him on “The Ultimate Fighter 20″ in advance of their title fight later this year.

“Gilbert’s going to be a good fight,” he said. “I’m excited to coach ‘The Ultimate Fighter.’ It should be a fun show, and no, I’m not a wrestler, so I’m looking for the knockout.”

Lol. Gil almost got ko'ed by Diego Sanchez. Pettis will have Gil diving for single legs.

I can't get excited about this fight until it's MAYBE three weeks out from the cage door closing. Yes, Pettis and Melendez are both fantastic fighters and the technical prowess on display should be a blast to watch. However, Pettis' history of injuries is concerning to say the least and saps my confidence in him returning to the ring as scheduled.

In for when Pettis pulls out of the fight with another injury. Not sure who annoys me the most, him or Cain. I guess it's Pettis because at least Cain doesn't talk shit while he's on the sideline with an injury.

That's a good point. I see Gil taking this fight to the ground any chance he gets.
