Former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva recently was interviewed by Brazil's Folha de Sao Paulo, and revealed that he is carrying on a family tradition of training to be a police officer.
"I train every morning, take my kids to school and go to the police school," said Silva as translated by MMAFighting's Guilherme Cruz. "I’m studying at the Los Angeles School Police Department. I’m studying to become a police officer."
Silva explains that he will not be going the LAPD, but instead is taking the course to honor his uncle, who raised him.
"It’s a personal wish, something that will make my uncle happy. He thought it was a little weird that I’m not doing this here (in Brazil), but it wasn’t the right time. My brothers are police officers, my nephews are police officers. It’s a family thing."
While the report might seem like an April Fools prank, it is dated on a story from Brazil that published on March 30th, and appears to be legit.
