MMA gets its first beer: Submission Ale

Fans of mixed martial arts and crafted beer can now raise a glass together — and help children battling a terrible disease.

On Wednesday, April 9th, 221 Industries Inc. and the Front Brewery unveiled their new beer, “Submission Ale.”

Representatives from Montana-based MMA promotion 221 Industries and the Front Brewery came up with the idea of a specially crafted brew pairing the two popular companies a few months ago.

“Brandon and Trevor came up with the idea, and we ran with it. Before I knew it, I was in the actual brewery helping the brewers make the beer,” said 221 Industries President and CEO Cory Smith of working with brewer Trevor Ziegler and The Front Manager Brandon Cartwright. “Working with everyone over at the Front has been an awesome experience — they have such an awesome staff and are just all-around good people.”

The partnership not only resulted in a good beer; it also raises money for a good cause. At the unveiling, $1 from every beer sold at The Front Brewery, 215 3rd St N.W., was donated to the 221 Children's Fund, which assists children with cancer and their family in dealing with the financial hardships brought on by the disease.  A donation also will be made to the fund for every keg sold to other bars.

Ziegler came up with the name “Submission Ale,” in a nod to 221 Industries’ popular Intense Championship Fighting MMA promotion, which routinely sells out shows  and has been the subject of statewide and national television broadcasts. All of the artwork for the beer was created by Josh Rowe of InkFish Creative.

Representatives from 221 and The Front hope Submission Ale — the new official beer of ICF and 221 — sells well and will continued to be made and sold  for a long time.

“The release party went great! We had a packed house, so many people came out to try this new MMA beer, it was an all around good night”  said Cory Smith about the Release party. “We raised a lot of money for the youth cancer foundation, and began our journey on making “Submission Ale” a well known beer in not just the mixed martial arts world, but to beer drinkers everywhere”

I heard somewhere that you actually invented at he Ale and that your submission skills were so admired by the people who brew beer they named it after a term you penned called the. 'Submission'. After you showed Hendo the H bomb, and taught Randy Couture how to wrestle.
