Gerald Harris retires from MMA at age 34

Gerald Harris
•Thanks so much for the opportunity but I have a family to take care of so I'm going to have to walk away. I am retiring from Mixed Martial Arts today. @AliAbdelaziz00 @SugarRaySefo @MMAWorldSeries
?•I truly appreciate the support - this is not a joke or a bluff. I am retiring with a win and what I consider a great career. Thanx everyone

Fighting professionally since 2006, Harris, 34, is a veteran of the UFC, DREAM, WSoF, and the IFL, among others. He goes out on his own terms, with a win over Jorge Santiago at WSoF 4. He went 5-1 his last six, losing only to Josh Burkman by decision in 2012.

Harris went 3-1 in the UFC, winning two KO of the Night performance bonus. Oddly, he was released after just one decision loss, a decision to Maiquel Falcao. All other fights were decision wins.

Harris has enjoyed simultaneous careers as a fighter and as a stand up comic. The UnderGround wished him every success in his post fight life.

Loretta is a great writer but not a lot of Zuffa folks talk to her anymore. I got that straight from several folks inside the org. Just can't remember the guys exact name, but close to that.

"To this day, nobody understands why UFC promoters Zuffa LLC dismissed Harris, as his body of work inside the Octagon certainly didn't merit it.Harris doesn't know why either. There weren't any backstage tiffs between manager and promotion or any other kind of issue that could shed some light on Zuffa's decision."I guess Loretta Hunt ain't been doin the education.

Not only that, he held a dance contest for some boxing gloves that was priceless. The man knows how to work a crowd.

+10Gerald is one of the friendliest guys you will ever meet. He always has time for the fans and has always been a man of the people. I was privledged to see Gerald's first professional fight. He actually knocked a guy out from inside the guard (Ryan Lopez). That was his warm up fight for the FCF Brawl for it All tournament a week later where Gerald eventually slammed his way to victory against UFC fighter Bubba McDaniel in the finals. Gerald was the ring announcer for a boxing event last weekend and if you ever get a chance to see Gerald on the mic DO NOT PASS IT UP! Dude is a riot.
