The quality of officiating is one of the most controversial topics in Mixed Martial Arts today. Although Maryland is hosting the UFC for the first time, an all-star line up of officials has been announced by Maryland State Athletic Commission.
Four referees and eight judges have been selected to work at UFC 172 on Saturday, April 26, 2014 at The Baltimore Arena in Baltimore, Maryland.
•Herb Dean – California;
•Dan Miragliotta – New Jersey;
•Kevin Mulhall - New Jersey; and,
•Mario Yamasaki – Maryland.
•Michael Barry – Ohio;
•Richard Bertrand – Florida;
•Derek Cleary – Georgia;
•Brent Colflesh – Pennsylvania;
•Eric Colon – New Jersey;
•Brad Duruttya – Maryland;
•Chris Lee – Florida; and,
•Cardo Urso – New Jersey.
“We have great confidence in the ability of the 12 MMA officials we have selected,” said Patrick Pannella, Executive Director of the Maryland State Athletic Commission. “Our team of officials, inspectors, and ringside physicians is looking forward to regulating UFC 172 and reflecting the Maryland State Athletic Commission’s high standards.”
