Velasquez: Jones still has a lot to do at 205 before a super fight

The idea of a super fight between two current champions has always interested fans of mixed martial arts. The idea of a fight between current light heavyweight champion Jon Jones and heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez seems like a dream super fight, but Velasquez believes that Jones has a lot of work to do in his own division before this could happen:

This past November, 205-pound champ Jones (20-1 MMA, 14-1 MMA) told MMAjunkie he was targeting a future showdown with heavyweight titleholder Velasquez (13-1 MMA, 11-1 UFC) within the next two years. However, just this past month, Jones changed his tune and said he was no longer interested in the matchup.

Velasquez remains optimistic the fight could still occur, but he understands Jones’ statement – mainly because he feels “Bones” has a series of difficult challenges ahead of him in his own weight class, including a fight with American Kickboxing Academy teammate Daniel Cormier.

“He has a lot of work to do in his division right now,” Velasquez told MMAjunkie. “He had Glover (Teixeira), and now he has ‘DC’ and then he has (Alexander) Gustafsson also. I just think that’s in the present moment right now because he has a lot of opponents coming up.”

You tell him to keep his mouth shut, keyboard warrior. He would bitch slap you into a living death. He is the fucking heavyweight champion and he has EARNED the right to say whatever he wants. Who are you assholes to tell him otherwise? Loudmouth little bitches.

He's right that Cain should keep his mouth shut? That's what you're saying?

Cain's right. I don't think he's saying that he hasn't done enough to warrant a fight at HW. Even against the champion. But his dance card is filled for at least the next 18 months

He has got a point. Other than JDS, who does Cain have as a challenge? Who does JDS have as a challenge, other than Cain?Maybe Werdum or Browne? Very doubtful.

Is GSP-Penn II the reason we haven't really seen a super fight lately?

Cain is correct, Jones has a lot to accomplish before he can think about challenging the HW champion.Just because he beat all of the recent former champions (Rua, Machida, Belfort, Rampage and Rashad) isn't really an accomplishment.Maybe Jones could defend his belt only ONCE a year?
