Since 2007, Urijah Faber has been one of the WEC's, then UFC's, biggest stars. In that time he has fought in eleven title fights, and if not, has always been a premier attraction.
However in his next bout with unheralded Alex Cacares, Faber finds himself in a less than ordinary position, a part of the preliminary card.
UFC officials recently finalized the fight card for the July 5, which takes place at Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas and features a championship doubleheader.
However, prior to the five-fight main card, six fights are part of the prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.
In the featured prelim slot, former title challenger Urijah Faber (30-7 MMA, 6-3 UFC) takes on rising 135-pound contender Alex Caceres (10-5 MMA, 5-3 UFC). Faber, a former WEC champion who’s headlined and co-headlined major UFC events, is ranked No. 3 in the USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie MMA bantamweight rankings. Caceres, who’s riding a four-fight winning streak (with one no-contest), is an honorable mention.

The decision is likely part to a solid night of fights booked and that Faber is taking on an opponent that is not well known. It also could be just the opposite and the UFC is using Faber to draw fans in as a head liner for the preliminary card airing on FOX Sports 1.
