Rankings Update: Ronda Rousey up to 9th p4p

by Chris Palmquist |

After each event, the UFC polls various members of the media to update its Rankings in each weight division as well as the pound for pound rankings.

This past weekend the UFC held two events back to back, and the most movement was in the featherweight division, where Frankie Edgar moved ahead of Cub Swanson. Also, Ronda Rousey moved up the ladder to claim the ninth spot in the pound for pound rankings.

Champion : Jose Aldo
1     Chad Mendes
2     Frankie Edgar +1
3     Cub Swanson -1
4     Ricardo Lamas
5     Chan Sung Jung
6     Dustin Poirier
7     Clay Guida +1
8     Dennis Siver +1
9     Nik Lentz -2
10     Jeremy Stephens
11     Dennis Bermudez
12     Darren Elkins
13     Conor McGregor -1
14     Charles Oliveira
15     Tatsuya Kawajiri

?The movement in the featherweight division is interesting because Cub Swanson was the likely candidate to face the winner of Jose Aldo and Chad Mendes. However, with Aldo hurt and the fight postponed, Swanson could wait out his title shot, which may take up to half a year by the time Aldo recovers, fights Mendes, and recovers again. However, he may now be motivated to take a fight versus Edgar who moved ahead of him in the rankings.

Pound for pound rankings are always the most discussed because likely everyone in them would never fight each other. Two people on the list, Chris Weidman and Ronda Rousey, both fought and won impressively this weekend, however only Rousey moved up in those rankings.

1     Jon Jones
2     Jose Aldo
3     Cain Velasquez
4     Demetrious Johnson
5     Chris Weidman
6     Anthony Pettis
7     Anderson Silva
8     Renan Barao
9     Ronda Rousey +1
10     Johny Hendricks -1
11     TJ Dillashaw
12     Vitor Belfort
13     Benson Henderson
14     Alexander Gustafsson
15     Gilbert Melendez

What if Anderson Silva was 22 years old? What if Brock had eaten vegetables? What if James Toney could wrestle? Pound for pound is dumb and this Ronda thing illustrates it nicely.

It has nothing to do with any of what you said.Imagine Cain and Ronda were the same weight. That's all there is to it. Make Ronda HW sized and how would she do?None of this transformation of body types and muscle fibers. That's fuckin stupid.Imagine they were the same weight. That's all p4p is.Ronda would get murdered by everyone on that list because any man the same weight as her will hit harder and their faces wont break as easily as hers. Not to mention the fact that womens MMA is about 10 years behind the mens as far as martial arts evolution and well-roundedness is concerned. The women are generally less skilled, they can't take shots as well, and their bodies aren't structured to dish out the shots too well either.Women and men should have separate lists. You can't compare them in a way that the women would ever stand a chance. If you think Ronda would beat anyone on that list, you are a retard.

In which case, tate should be on the list also.

pound for pound means just that what if ronda had the same fat to muscle ratio and fast twitch fiber in every pound as an average male ufc fighter, where would she be is it any different than asking what happens when you put mighty mouse against cain velasquez but you make them the same size and modulate their speed and punching power proportionally

Everyone on that list murders Ronda. She's ranked above Dillashaw for fuck sakes. There needs to be separate p4p for women and men. It's a joke that she's even on the list with men.

I think we got the answer early on in the thread by the guy who posted it. We don't need to guess.

Well maybe because she's the only one who moved up in the p4p?

because there is one division. They're pumping Ronda's tires so hard right now they'll do anything to get her name out there. There probably have to be at least 3 divisions to even talk about p4p for women.Just leave Ronda out of it until then.
