50 Cent: MMA and boxing can coexist

Friday, November 30, 2012

MMA Heat’s ever awesome Karyn Bryant caught up with rapper, entrepreneur, investor, and actor 50 Cent, who is now promoting undefeated former World Featherweight boxing Champion Yuriorkis Gamboa.

50 Cent (real name: Curtis James Jackson III) talked about his entry into boxing, why he chose Yuriorkis Gamboa, Floyd Mayweather Jr, and MMA. Specifically, Bryant asked if boxing and MMA can co-exist.

“I think they can,” said 50. “It surprises me, the people that are actually involved in MMA, because the discipline involved in martial arts allowed parents to take their kids when they were very small. You see people that you’d be surprised have actually acquired those skills at the real early part of their lives, and then they add different boxing and wrestling formats and they put it on.

“But those guys don’t look like a traditional fighter. That’s the guy on the train that you say the wrong thing to, and you find out you shouldn’t have been talking.”
