All-time collegiate great Stephen Abas coming to MMA

2004 freestyle wrestling Olympic silver medalist Stephen Abas has signed a two-fight contract with Tachi Palace Fights where he will compete at 135 lbs.

Abas, 32, wrestled for California State University, Fresno, from 1998-2002. Among the honors he earned as a collegiate wrestler are:
Four time All-American
Three time Division I National Champion
144-4 collegiate record
Joined  Dan Gable, Cael Sanderson and Kurt Angle in being named to the NCAA 75th Anniversary Wrestling Team – the 15 greatest NCAA wrestlers in history. He began intensive training in MMA in January for his

In 2008, Abas retired from competitive wrestling after a failed run at the Olympic Trials, and took up a position as a wrestling coach with San Diego’s The Arena  MMA gym, working with Diego Sanchez, Cris Cyborg, and others. He began intensive MMA training this past January for a May 5th debut.
