Askren meeting with UFC in Vegas Monday, White remains uninterested
Bellator welterweight champion Ben Askren has a perfect record, and no job, since he was released by Bellator.
“I’ve said it many times, Ben’s a completely one-dimensional fighter who is utterly dominant in that dimension,” said Bellator founder & CEO Bjorn Rebney. “I had a number of discussions with Ben and it became clear it was time for both parties to move in different directions.
World Series of Fighting has expressed interest, but Askren's interest lies with the UFC, where he has offered to fight for free. However, UFC president Dana White has communicated frankly that he is not interested in signing Askren at present.
Now MMAFighting's Ariel Helwani reports that Askren will have a meeting with UFC chairman and CEO Lorenzo Fertitta in Las Vegas on Monday, that White will participate by phone, and that White remains uninterested.
"We're gonna meet with him on Monday," said White. "We're just not going to sign him. He can go to World Series of Fighting where there's actually some competition for him. There's no competition for him at that other place [Bellator].
"At least at WSOF he can get some competition and test himself."
