Bisping has surgery for detached retina, hopes for Oct return

June 5, 2013

In 2010 Alan Belcher had retinal surgery to correct a potentially career-ending injury. Thus the hardcore fanbase cringed all the harder when Michael Bisping accidentally poked Belcher in the eye at UFC 151, ending the fight.

Ironically, Belcher's eye was fine, but Bisping suffered a detached retina, and recently had surgery to corrrect it.

Ariel Helwani broke the news, on  FUEL TV's "UFC Tonight."

"After the fight against Alan Belcher, Michael Bisping completely lost all peripheral vision in his right eye," said Helwani. "He went to see an eye on doctor on Tuesday and he found out that he had a detached retina. On Thursday, he had surgery to fix the detached retina. He’s hoping to return to the UFC in October."
