Brandon Saling MMA license revoked by Ohio and NJ ACs

On the undercard of Saturday’s Strikeforce: Tate vs. Rousey card, a number of fans spotted what appeared to be white power tattoos on fighter Brandon Saling. A quick internet search by various parties turned up a criminal record as well. In response, xecutive director of the Ohio Athletic Commission Bernie Profato announced there would be an investigation, and the first resutls of that investigation just became public.

After a brief investigation, Brandon Saling’s license has been revoked by the Ohio Athletic Commission and New Jersey State Athletic Control Board. The administrative action will be noted on a national database that tracks administrative and medical suspensions of fighters.

Profato told that Saling violated administrative statutes when he lied about his criminal background on an application for a fight license.

“There’s a dual thing there,” Profato said. “He’ll have to answer to the falsification, and two, if you read the law, it says they don’t have to license you for a felony. Now, it will be whether they ever license him again because of being listed as a sexual predator.”

“I’ve got 4,000 fighters. I’m going to look at them, and if we catch something – I’m not saying we wouldn’t have missed this. But once it’s brought to your attention, you would take action.

“If it’s homicide or sexual predator, or if you’re applying for a promoter’s license and it’s fraud, or theft in office, you probably aren’t going to get licensed.”

Saling can appeal the ruling at a OAC hearing planned for April 11.

If Saling is unsuccessful in appealing the revocation, he must wait a year before he is eligible to reapply for a license in Ohio. Other commissions are not required to honor his administrative suspension, though they often do.

At the UFC on Fox 3 pre-fight press conference, Ultimate Fighting Championship President Dana White answered said that Saling will never fight for Zuffa again, and should find an alternate line of work.

“Apparently what this guy did is he lied on his application to the athletic commission in Ohio and he lied on his application to the athletic commission in New Jersey,” White said. “So to the best of my understanding, obviously this guy is never going to fight for us ever again, and me might not ever fight again.

“I know he has been suspended by both states and then all these other commissions follow a suspension from other states. And for this guy to ever get licensed again he’d have to go for a hearing for the athletic commissions. I find it hard to believe that this guy will ever be licensed again so he better go find another job.”

On an Ohio MMA site message board, a post message by the victims was posted. There is no confirmation that this is in fact the victim of the crime for which Saling was jailed.

hi my name is akira and when i was 12 years old i was held down in an old camper in the woods and raped by brandon saling. one week before that he raped my 13 year old sister but she was to scared to say anything because he said he would kill us. his original charge was rape in the first degree. but judge john nau from noble county offered him gross sexual imposition instead of rape and in turn he told on other people like james the guy who helped him rape me, and two people who sold marijuana even knowing that they found his dna inside of me. i think he should rot in prison for the rest of his life for what he did to me. instead he got 6 months in rehab and 10 months in prison. he is scum and should not be idolized. he should have never had a second chance because he really hurt me and my sister.
