Coach: Cormier, Cain both beat Jon Jones

Jon Jones is the greatest fighter in MMA. His goal is to be the greatest fighter ever. In order to reach all time status, he likely will have to fight both Daniel Cormier and Cain Velasquez.

Both Cormier and Velasquez are trained by American Kickboxing Academy head Javier Mendez. In an interview with excellent Submission Radio, Javier predicts Jones go 0-2 vs. his students.

“Out of everybody that Jones has fought, Daniel's going to be the one that's not going to have an issue with his reach, that's not going to have an issue getting inside,” said Mendez as transcribed by David St. Martin for MMAFighting. “He is going to get inside. You know, what happens is gonna happen, but I guarantee you this, he's going to go inside, Daniel's going to take him down and we'll see what happens from there.”

UFC president Dana White recently said that a fight between Jones and Velasquez is likely at some point.

“Right now, Cain Velasquez has to fight Werdum,” said White as transcribed by MMAJunkie. “Jon Jones has Gustafsson, possibly Cormier if he wins that fight (vs. Dan Henderson) – he’s got a lot of guys lined up still.

“The other thing is, Jon Jones is 26 years old. As he continues to get older, he will have a harder and harder time making 205, which would eventually probably force him up to heavyweight. It’s not the time for a Cain versus Jon Jones superfight.”

When the time does come, Mendez likes his fighter.

“Jon will definitely pose some problems for Cain, but Cain's going to pose more problems for Jon that he's never faced in his whole entire life,” said Mendez.
