Dana White: Anderson Silva says he can make 170, easy
UFC Welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre has expressed the hope for a superfight with UFC Middleweight champion Anderson Silvato be at his home weight of 170, as GSP fells the move to 185 would be permanent.
Late in 2012 that provoked Anderson’s personal physician, to says it would be ‘criminal’ to try and get Silva fighter down to that weight.
“It would be a crime for Anderson to try and fight at 77kg,” said the doctor. “He could maybe make the weight but the physical loss that he would suffer would be too much.”
“For me this fight should happen at 80kg (176 lbs), since that would already be a sacrifice for Anderson. It would be his first shot at this weight and we would have to implement a very specific work for him to be able to perform at 100% of his capacity.”
However, at Wednesday’s press conference in England, UFC president Dana White revealed that Silva has no qualms about dropping to 170.
“Anderson would go to (170 pounds), too,” said White . “Yeah, he said he’d do it. He says he can make (170) easy. It’s insane.”
Silva has competed at 174, in a disquaification loss to Yushin Okami at Rumble on the Rock 8 on January 20, 2006. Since then he has dominated 185 like no one ever, with forays up to 205.
White was asked which he thought was more likely, 170 or 205.
“I’ll take either one, and both,” said White.
