Eddie Wineland wires out Fri, may retire
The UFC's 5th ranked bantamweight Eddie Wineland broke his jaw for the first time vs. Brandon Carlson on October 23, 2004 at Xtreme Kage Kombat in Curtiss, Wisconsin. Ten months later, he fought again.
Wineland broke his jaw a second time a decade later vs. Johnny Eduardo at UFC Fight Night 40 on May 10, 2014 in Cincinnati, Ohio. This time he may never fight again.
On May 14 Wineland had surgery and his jaw was wired shut. According to Ariel Helwani on UFC Tonight, Friday the wires come out, after a month of not being able to chew or eat whole food. Wineland still has goals he wants to accomplish in the sport, but does not want to go through a broken jaw a third time.
A full-time firefighter in Northwest Indiana, for six weeks, Wineland we not be able to either train nor work. Now Wineland plans to make the decision once he heals up.
