Eye vows to whoop @$$ if she doesn’t get title shot
Ronda Rousey is the most dominant champion in mixed martial arts. Who she fights next is a question without a firm answer yet.
Cat Zingano asked for a rematch while still inside The Octagon, and Ronda Rousey kindly said she deserved it. But immediate rematches are generally given only when the ending was controversial, which the UFC 184 main event was not.
Cris Cyborg is the superfight every fan wants, but Sunday morning she hit the scales at 175.
Holly Holm was presumably in the co main because a spectacular win would have set up the former world boxing champion as the #1 contender, but Holm won a Split Decision.
The two leading candidates are Bethe Correia and Jessica Eye. Both told UFC president Dana White backstage at UFC 184 that they really, really want a title shot.
“(Correia) came up and said, ‘I want to go into the octagon after Ronda fights, and I want to get in her face,’ and ‘I want to fight Ronda, I want to fight Ronda,'” said White to Steven Marrocco for MMAjunkie.
“(Eye) said, ‘If anybody gets that fight over me, I’m whupping somebody’s ass.' Everybody wants to fight (Ronda). It’s a good problem to have.”
Eye confirmed White's description of her determination.
“I want gold,” she said. “Whoever has it, I want that. I’m not married. You don’t see any gold on my fingers. I could put one around my waist – at least I put it there.”
Correia too confirmed White's story.
“I’m waiting for the UFC to decide,” she said, via an interpreter. “I’ve done everything that’s possible in my way. I fought everyone. I challenge everyone. Dana White wants me to samba? Maybe I can do a little samba if that’s what you want. I can do everything that is possible to me, because I really, really want this fight.”
Rousey may now be the biggest star in the sport. Post fight she called out Bethe Correia, which would have to make the Brazilian the most likely figure to fight for the title next.
