Gegard Mousasi wants Lyoto Machida fight

UFC Dana White said after UFN 30 that he wants to see new Middleweight Lyoto Machida fight Vitor Belfort next. However, White made it clear he was speaking as a fan, not as a matchmaker.

“I think, and I’m just talking here as a fan, not as a promoter, I think a lot of people want to see him and Vitor Belfort,” said White as translated by MMAJunkie. “That would be a fun fight. Vitor’s got to win down in Brazil. And who knows, he could fight someone else before that. But I’m just saying, as a fan, and speaking for many fans, that’s the fight they want to see. At least that’s what everyone was screaming at me on the way out of the arena tonight.”

Gegard Mousasi has other wishes, and he may get his way.

“I want to make an impact in the middleweight division and to fight the best contenders out there,” Mousasi told MMAWeekly. “I respect Machida and would like to test my stand-up against him. I believe a fight between us would determine the No.1 contender in the middleweight division. ‘The Dream Catcher vs. The Dragon’ sounds good to me. Let’s do it.”

Nima Safapour, Mousasi’s manager, said a fight with Machida is all he and his fighter want, and they want it now.

“The middleweight division has been revitalized recently with the new faces that have entered that division from Strikeforce and guys like Lyoto Machida that have come down from light heavyweight,” said Safapour. “We believe the fight would determine the No.1 contender.”
