Gegardi Mousasi hints at move back to middleweight
Gegard Mousasi has fought as a lightheavvyweight and a middleweight, but upon entering the UFC stayed in the 205 lb. division, most recently winning a unanimous decision over Ilir Latifi at the UFC on Fuel TV 9 in Sweden. However, coming into the UFC the level of competition will be the hardest Mousasi has fought tonight and fighting in a weight class above could prove to be a difficult task. Mousasi recently questioned whether or not a move back to middleweight would be the best for his career:
Mousasi (34-3-2 MMA, 1-0 UFC) , who’s 21-1-1 over his past 24 fighters, hinted at a potential move down to middleweight.
“Hey everybody, what you think about if I go to 185?” he tweeted today. “I am curious what people think about this idea.”
The 185-division isn’t uncharted territory for the 27-year-old, who previously held DREAM’s middleweight title after winning the organization’s grand prix in 2008. However, he later signed with Strikeforce, where he held the organization’s title in the light-heavyweight division. All of Mousasi’s recent work has come in the weight class.
