Dutch lightheavyweight Gilbert Yvel announces his retirement from MMA at age 36. In an interview with the German MMA site GnP, Yvel talks about his career highlights, as well as his future as a trainer at Germany’s Agoge MMA.

Yvel talks about his first fight, which took place over 15 years ago; it was a DQ loss. Yvel’s reputation for in ring rules violations was such that the Nevada State Athletic Commission refused to license him in 2007. He was however granted a conditional license in 2009, and had no incidents for the last few years of his career.

Yvel is a PRIDE, Affliction, UFC, RINGS, M-1 Challenge, Cage Rage, and K-1 veteran, among others. He holds wins over ‘Dirty’ Bob Schrijber, Semmy Schilt, Gary Goodridge, Cheick Kongo, and Pedro Rizzo, among many others, and went out with back to back victories.
