Lombard: ‘Not impress’ by Matt Brown

Wednesday, May 21, 2014

Matt Brown won his 7th fight in a row at UFC Fight Night 40 on May 10, tying for second place in the UFC streak record, behind only Jon Jones' 11. Brown did so in a fight of the year candidate vs. Erick Silva. In any division but welterweight he would be getting a title shot.

UFC president Dana White has said Brown is one fight away from a title shot. Given that the big criticism against Brown is that he has yet to face a top-10 fighter, his next one will presumably be a big fight.

However, everyone ranked above Brown is spoken for:
1. Robbie Lawler
2. Rory MacDonald
3. Tyron Woodley
4. Carlos Condit
5. Jake Ellenberger
6. Matt Brown
7. Hector Lombard
8. Demian Maia
9. Dong Hyun Kim
10. Tarec Saffiedine

#1 Robbie Lawler fights #5 Jake Ellenberger at UFC 173: Barao vs Dillashaw on 05/24. #2 Rory MacDonald fights #3 Tyron Woodley at UFC 174: Bagautinov vs. Johnson on 06/14. #4 Carlos Condit  is injured.

This leaves Hector Lombard as the obvious fight for Matt Brown. And Lombard appears to be ready to get the bad blood boiling, via Twitter.

No disrespect, but Lombard is a fighter that Brown wants NO part of right about now. #realtalk

shots fired!

Lombard entered the UFC from Bellator on an extraordinary 28 fight streak, but went just 1-2 as a UFC middleweight. However, he dropped to welterweight, and has gone 2-0 with wins over Nate Marquardt and Jake Shields.

So the Lombard vs. Brown fight appears to be underway. Who do you think takes it?
