Nate Diaz denies turning down Nurmagomedov fight

Sunday, January 12, 2014

Saturday night, UFC president Dana White was talking football with fans on Twiter when one asked him about a potential fight between Nate Diaz and Khabib Nurmagomedov.

@TeamKhabib @danawhite @NateDiaz209 all want to see this fight!

White replied promptly

Dana White ‏@danawhite
@EDLEZGIN @TeamKhabib Nate turned the fight down

Shortly afterwards, Diaz posted this.

Nathan Diaz ‏@NateDiaz209
F U Pay Me

And then Nate Diaz got all Nate Diaz on the situation.

Nathan Diaz @NateDiaz209
@danawhite @ufc are full of shit I didn’t turn down anything …

Khabib responded promptly.

khabib nurmagomedov  @TeamKhabib
@NateDiaz209 @danawhite If you not scared, let’s fight!!

Then Nate’s new manager Mike Kogan told MMAMania that his fighter was offered the fight, but that the camp’s condtions were not met.

“Nate has never turned down a fight against anyone,” said Kogan. “There are conditions that we asked for that were turned down by the UFC, so the fight didn’t happen.”

In an interview with MMAFighting, Kogan provided further details.

“We asked for Nate’s contract to be redone,” said Kogan. “The UFC turned it down. We asked for a change to his contract, and changes to when the fight takes place. They said no and we said no thanks. This is supposed to be a professional sport, but then this resorts to these Twitter wars. This isn’t a street fight, it’s a professional sport. If it’s a street fight and they want to see who the better man is they know where the f— Nate is, and then we can see who is the better man.”
