Overeem out with quad injury, JDS fight likely in Summer, Hunt declines?
With Alistair Overeem injured with a projected five week recovery, and out of his fight with Junior dos Santos at UFC 160, many in the hardcore fanbase clamored, again, for Mark Hunt to get a title shot. Again, it looks like it is not going to happen.
A fan reached out to UFC president Dana White via Twitter and asked for Hunt vs. JDS.
“Not lookin good,” tweeted White. “Cigano vs Overeem in the summer.”
When pressed later, White related that Hunt had in fact turned down the fight.
“Mark Hunt turned down the fight with JDS as of last night,” said White, who added “so STFU when u don’t know what ur talkin about.”
However, Hunt responded on Twitter that he had done no such thing.
“I have never turned down a fight and even wen I was injured I had to force myself not to fight,” Tweeted Hunt. “Your general fears no man but the almighty.”
White later tweeted “Mark Hunt and I just got off the phone and had a GREAT conversation!!” Exactly what the miscommunication or misunderstanding is will likely be determined in the next couple of days.
Overeem offered details on the injury, also via Twitter.
“Injured! Caught a slightly tear in my quad muscle,” tweeted Overeem. “So unfortunately out of may 25 UFC. Not happy to let you guys ‘the fans’ down!”
