Pat Miletich is a legend in mixed martial arts, for crafting the blueprint that the sport has followed since – to reach the highest level of MMA, you have to have diverse skills sufficient in wrestling, BJJ, and striking to hang in the gym with national class players in the respective discipline.

Miletich currently appears on Showtime, ESPN and AXS.TV as a fight commentator, and trains law enforcement officers and military members in combatives.

And now he is considering a run for the United States Senate.

The Quad City Times has the story.

Miletich  tweeted last week that people could pencil his name in next year for Senate, adding “Bruce Braley cannot win that seat.”

Braley, a Democrat from Waterloo, has said he is running for the seat being vacated by Sen. Tom Harkin, D-Iowa.

In an interview Monday, he said he hasn’t decided whether he will add “Senate candidate” to his resume but he has been thinking about politics for a couple of years.

“A lot of people are fed up with a lot of things that are happening in the country,” he said.

He criticized the influence of special interest, and said he believes in term limits. He also said the government is intruding too much on the private sector and individual rights.

“I’m not a fan of the left, socialist mentality at all,” he said.

Miletich is a registered Republican but said it was possible he could run as an independent.

The 47-year-old also left open the possibility he might even run for a local office, such as mayor of Bettendorf. But then he added, “I never think small.”
