Pyle replaces Kim vs. Hathaway at UFC 120

Tuesday, July 20, 2010

Welterweight submission artist Mike Pyle (19-7-1 MMA, 2-2 UFC) looks for his first-ever two-fight win streak in the UFC against undefeated up-and-comer John Hathaway (14-0 MMA, 4-0 UFC) at UFC 120.

Pyle replaces Dong Hyun Kim, who was forced out of the matchup with an undisclosed injury.

Verbal agreements are in place, and contracts are expected to be finalized shortly.

Pyle enters the matchup on the strength of an outstanding performance at UFC 115. Pyle outfought opponent Jesse Lennox and appeared on his way to a unanimous-decision win. But after surviving a brief scare following some careless striking, Pyle locked in a triangle choke and put Lennox to sleep with 16 seconds left in the fight.

Pyle appeared an early favorite for the evening’s “Submission of the Night” bonus, but that was eventually awarded to Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic.
