Rising New England Star Beane upends Dan Severn’s 100th win bid
The main event of the night “The Beast Comes East” at the Worcester,. Mass DCU Center featured Ultimate Fighting Championship Hall of Famer Dan “The Beast” Severn, who was searching for his 100th career win when he faced 26-year-old Lee Beane of Bridgewater.
He did not reach that goal.
Severn came out tentative, and Beane took early command with a series of low kicks to the calves and hamstrings of Severn. At the three-minute mark, he caught Severn with a straight right hand and moved in for the kill. He hit him with four consecutive punches, dropping the UFC Hall of Famer to the canvas. Beane jumped on him, finishing the knockout at 3:28 of the first round.
After the fight, Severn addressed the crowd, calling Beane “the future of the sport” and thanking the fans for helping the sport grow to the level it has reached.
Severn officially has won 97 fights, for a total of 99 heading into last night. He said that even though he surpassed 100 wins unofficially long ago, he was looking forward to officially hitting the milestone.
“We have come a long ways, but MMA is still not sanctioned in every state, and that’s one of my goals,” Severn said.
