Saffiedine: I want to unite Strikeforce and UFC belts
Tarec Saffiedine, the last and forever Strikeforce Welterweight Champion, and new UFC signee talks UFC 158 and more. As shared with the UG’s Jack Brown.
Q. Who do you see winning UFC 158, GSP vs Diaz, and why do you think so?
Tarec Saffiedine: I think GSP will win by unanimous decision. He’s stronger, a better wrestler, and good in top position after he takes you down. Diaz is hard to finish though.
Q. Who do think will win in Condit vs Hendricks?
TS: Hendricks is a good wrestler, with good power with his left, obviously. I think he can win the fight.
Q. You will be debuting in the UFC. Who do you want to fight?
TS: Nobody in particular. I think there are a lot of great fighters in the top ten that can bring the best out of me in a fight and help me put on a great fight for the fans. But at the same time, I want to get to the top and smartly fight my way up there.
Q. Do you ultimately want to unify the Strikeforce and UFC belts?
TS: Its definitely my goal, but I have to take it one step at a time. Ultimately, it will lead me to the UFC belt. It’s inevitable. It will happen. I know with my skill set and motivation that I will take the UFC belt too.
Q. You mentioned in the past that you want to put a good show on for the fans when you debut in the UFC. Which fighter in your division will bring the best out of you, so you can showcase your skills?
TS: There are a lot of great fighters in the top 10 who would do so, I believe. I don’t choose my next opponent though. The UFC does! I can’t wait for the opportunity. You know that all the Strikeforce fighters have put on great performances in the Octagon. I’m eager to do that too!
