Scott Harper Fundraiser

Tuesday, September 22, 2009

Georgia based MMA fighter Scott Harper was scheduled to fight on the Fight for the Troops card, in Irag.  He had two seizures a few days before, and they found bleeding on his brain. One hospital sent him home with some steroid. He called the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville and his wife, a nurse, drove him down.

After 90 min at Mayo, they tell him he would be dead from that medicine, and had him in the OR.  They took off over 60% of his skull, which is now held together and partially covered with titanium. Scott is a family man who served his country in Desert Storm.  He last fought in WEC vs Logan Clarke.

Needless to say, his MMA career is over, and he may lose his job.

Members of the GA MMA community want to first try to get ahold of fighters who would want to donate autographed items for auction.  This would be an ongoing thing throughout the year.  Also, we’d like to set up a “Donate $50, get a free shirt from “Company A” and a Free DVD”, and escalate that with larger donations.

All fighters or managers in the sport are invited to send items for an ongoing auction with 100% of the proceeds going to Scott and his family for medical bills, etc.  His wife is on leave to take care of him and his insurance surely will not cover all of the cost of brain surgery , not to mention therapy, etc.  And with 2 incomes gone…well, you get the idea.

Items should be sent to:
