Should Frankie Edgar get the next title shot at Jose Aldo?
Frankie Edgar on getting a title shot vs. Jose Aldo: “I think I’ve done enough. Based on everything else I’ve done in my career, I think I’m that guy.”

There had been some debate about who should get a title shot at Jose Aldo – Cub Swanson if he gets a win over Frankie Edgar at UFN 57, or Conor McGregor if he gets a win over Dennis Siver at UFN 59 on January 18, 2015.
Fighters in the UFC are implored to always go for the finish and never leave it in the hands of the judges. On Saturday night Frankie Edgar personified that, tapping Swanson with a neck crank at 4:56 of Round 5, the latest finish in UFC history.
“That’s what we do this for,” said Edgar at the post fight press conference.
After brilliantly making his case for a title shot in the Octagon, Edgar calmly made the case at the presser.
“It should be me,” said Edger evenly. “Based on my performance, based on my career, it should be me. That’s it.”
Edgar was asked how would feel if McGregor ends up with the shot.
“I don’t know if I’d be angry,” he said. “I’d be disappointed. I’m not going to be a baby about it. What can I do? Keep my head down, go back to the gym, and earn another shot. That’s all I can do.”
Edgar was then asked about the McGregor vs. Siver matchup, and whether “Notorious” is being protected.
I don’t know man – it’s not my job to make the fights or anything,” said Edgar. “I guess my opinion on it – I don’t know who else was there for him to fight. It’s definitely a good matchup for him.
“I think everybody wants to see him fight a wrestler; there’s still some unknown about him. He’s been doing everything he’s supposed to when he’s in there with whoever he’s in there with.
Dennis I don’t think is an easy fight by any means, but it’s not the matchup that everybody wants – to see him fight a wrestler or see someone who can take him into deep water. But it is what it is.
Edgar appeared on FOX Sports 1 post fight; he didn’t grin maniacally, and he wasn’t wearing a bespoke suit, but he continued to make a compelling case never the less.
“I just beat the guy who was promised it, so I’m hoping I take that spot,” said Edgar.
“Based on what Cub has done in his past six or seven fights, the tear he’s been on, and being able to go out there and finish him – I would’ve loved to have done it a little quicker – but I think I’ve done enough. Based on everything else I’ve done in my career, I think I’m that guy.”
One reason against a title shot is that Edgar lost a decision to Aldo early in 2013, but a lot can change in two years. Edgar explained at the presser that he is still getting better.
I’m improving, I’m steady improving, that’s always my goal,” he said. “I stay in the gym. I train with great people like Edson. And I have great coaches. And like I said, there’s no ceiling yet. I just want to keep improving. That’s it man.”
What do you think UG? Who is that guy that gets the next title shot?
