The Ultimate Fighter Season 18 tryouts are today at the Palace Station Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, NV. The tryout is for bantamweight men and women’s division for the next season which will be coached by Ronda Rousey and Cat Zingano.

The day started earlier, with competitors lining up outside the tryout room as early as 6:00 AM, despite the 8:00 AM start time.

Promptly at 8:00 AM, the Tuf Guy productions staff welcomed all the fighters and introduced the process. All fighters would register and have their picture taken and then be broken into groups of forty. Then will then grapple, after which UFC staf will make cuts, then hit mitts, and another round of cuts. Finally the athletes would be interview, where a final selection of fighters will be invited to stay in Vegas for a last round of interviewing and medicals.

It looks like roughly 50-60 women have shown up for the start of tryouts, and over 200 bantamweight men. Some noticeable women athletes in attendance so far are pioneers Roxanne Modafferi, Tara Larosa, Tonya Evinger. Also trying out are Shayna Basler and Kim Couture, former wife of UFC champion Randy Couture.

Several UFC athletes have also been spotted, most likley here to support teammates. Joe Lauzon, TUF alum Jimmy Quinlan, Giblert Smith, Daron Cruinkshank, and TUF season 17 winner Kevin Gastelum are all in attendance.

The tryouts started around 10:00 AM ET with the arrival of UFC matchmakers Joe Silva and Sean Shelby and UFC President Dana White.

The women were up first, and after a first round of grappling, the field was cut approxiametely in half, after which the women did a round of striking. After the striking round, no cuts were made and the remaining women moved on to the interview process.

After an interview process, a select number of women were chosen to stay in Vegas and complete additional interviews and medical work. As to who was chosen, it will remain a secret until the cast announcement.

The process was similar for the men, however taking much longer as there was a much bigger of men trying out.
