Wallace vs. Nedkov at UFC 117 in Oakland
UFC officials have unveiled the night’s preliminary card, including a new addition, light heavyweight Rodney Wallace vs. UFC newcomer Stanislav Nedkov.
Wallace is fighting for his life in the organization following back-to-back unanimous-decision losses to Brian Stann and Jared Hamman. Although most fighters are dropped from the organization following a 0-2 start, Wallace likely got a reprieve because the Hamman bout at UFC 111 was a “Fight of the Night” award winner that netted each fighter $65,000.
Wallace, an accomplished Division II running back for Catawba College’s football team, now meets Nedkov, an undefeated Bulgarian fighter who comes to the UFC after stints with organizations such as Shooto Bulgaria and World Victory Road’s Sengoku event series, where he scored wins over former UFC fighters Travis Wiuff and Kevin Randleman. Despite a wrestling and jiu-jitsu background, he’s comfortable on his feet and has scored five knockout wins. In fact, only two of his 11 career wins went to a decision.
