Wanderlei April Fools Mousasi fight, Gegard not amused

Monday, April 01, 2013

Alexander Gustafsson reportedly received a cut in training and may not be cleared at present to fight Gegard Mousasi in the main event at UFC on Fuel 9 in Sweden on Saturday. According to Wanderlei’s twitter, it looks like he could be in instead.

It’s true, @wandfc just confirmed to me via text message that he is fighting @mousasi_mma on Saturday! #ufc @ufc

Even the other main even fighter was apparently game.

Gegard Mousasi ‏@mousasi_mma

I catch you wand the best April first ever!!

So the whole thing was just an April Fools prank. If it was anyone but Wand, fans might be a little upset about being fooled, but it was Wanderlei Silva, so all you can do is smile.

One figure who was not smiling was Gegard himself, via Twitter:

@wandfc @arielhelwani IDIOOT OF THE YEAR 2013!! Good job JACKASS!!!

All this “April Fools” stuff is stupid. But Wand lied to media outlets, he took it too far.
