Aus court hands out $500 fine for werdumeranging of Covington

UFC welterweight Colby Covington and former heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum got into a scuffle earlier the day before of the Brazilian’s main event fight vs. Marcin Tybura on Saturday (Sunday in Australia) at UFC Fight Night 121 in Sydney.

Werdum’s side of the story as told to Brazil’s UOL is that Covington walked by and muttered “filthy Brazilians.” Werdum says he knocked a cell phone out of Covington’s hand, and that the welterweight responded with a kick. Werdum never referenced throwing a boomerang, but there is good reason to believe he did. Covington also said he was punched, and pursued charges.

Now News 9 reports that an Australian court has fined Werdum Aus $600 (aprox. US $460) for the infraction, which consisted of throwing a boomerang in a bag at Covington. It hit Covington in the neck. Werdum didn’t appear in the local court, but will presumably pay the fine.
