Burt Watson, the Babysitter to the Stars, appeared recently on MMAjunkie Radio and discussed his new role as a board member and director of fighter relations for Alliance MMA. The consortium of MMA properties went public on the NASDAQ exchange earlier this month.

Under the direction of president Rob Haydak, Alliance MMA has acquired a number of companies in the MMA space, including Cage Fury Fighting Championship, Combat Games MMA, Hoosier Fight Club, V3 Fights, and Shogun Fights. They plan further acquisitions and aim in time to promote over 125 events a year, showcasing more than 1,000 fighters, through regional promotions operating under the Alliance MMA umbrella.

I’ve always prided myself on being the liaison between the promoter and the fighter, because there was always a gap in there, or a form of misunderstanding that needed to be understood, said Watson, as transcribed by Steven Marrocco for MMAjunkie. Now, I’ve got an opportunity to do that with the fighter, but also with various promotions across the U.S. I’m happy I’m still relevant, baby.

Those 14 years I put out are nothing but experience – watching and understanding the culture and development, what works, and who’s a valuable commodity in MMA.”

You get strength in numbers, but it allows the platforms they need to move to another level. It provides a developmental league to the broader picture MMA and the larger promoters of MMA.

I think it’s probably one of the best things I’ve seen come along in a long time.”

In other great news for the hardcore MMA fanbase, Watson says he is mulling over writing a book.
