Cowboy almost pulled out of main event on fight day
Many fighters offer excuses when they lose. However, Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone is not many fighters – he does not offer excuses, ever.
Cerrone lost a unanimous decision to Leon Edwards in the main event of UFC Fight Night 132 on Saturday at Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang, Singapore. At the post-fight press conference, he said he felt so sick Saturday that he nearly pulled out of the fight.
“This is the first time in my career I’ve ever almost called Dana and said ‘I’m not coming to work today,’” said Cerrone, as transcribed by Dan Hiergesell for MMA Mania. “Then I just looked myself in the mirror and said ‘you’re not that guy.’ Just go.”
“That has nothing to do with the way I fought. I’m very proud of myself actually for getting in there and fighting. So I’m happy. I don’t have any remorse or doubt, or upset in any way. I don’t think I lost any stock so I’m good.”
This isn’t an excuse and Cerrone wasn’t making one. Maybe if Cerrone wasn’t sick he still would have lost. Maybe Edwards was sick too; it’s likely Edwards had some injury. It only means one thing – Donald Cerrone is as tough as they come, and we look forward to seeing him fight again, soon.
The wish to see Cerrone fight again shortly will likely be fulfilled as he says he wants to fight two more times this year.
