Cyborg camp discusses details of controversial testing in Thailand

Sunday, September 24, 2017

Non-standard USADA representatives showed up in Thailand to collect a sample for testing from UFC women’s featherweight champion Cris Cyborg, and the agents were detained and eventually released by police. Without any evidence what so ever, there were suggestions that the fighter was somehow trying to avoid the test. In fact, she willingly provided the sample, and it is on its way to a testing lab, with the chain of custody intact.

Her boyfriend Ray Elbe provided further details in a discussion on The UG.

It began when someone posted a tweet from BE’s Iain Kidd.

She had already given the sample. No one was trying to prevent a sample collection.

Why wouldn’t an organization as large and global as USADA use local Thai collectors or a collecting agency with valid work permits?

I did visit the police station today and have a copy of the incident report filed, maybe one day I’ll make it public as there are several interesting statements in it that show the collection agency knew they were not suppose to be working without proper documentation.

Cyborg has been in Thailand over a month, and she is who supplied the hotel address. When given the option not to take the test, she still elected to give the sample, so she clearly wasn’t trying to prevent them from doing their job.

Morpheus1976 – don’t forget Ray, the Japan lab cost Mir 2 years, they have all the latest tests.

She’s clean mate.

she was also on the phone with Jeff Nevitsky who was in Japan and speaking directly with the USADA reps present at the UFC event.

as mentioned Cris gave her sample before the police had been notified, and she told the police she wants them to be able to leave the country with the sample.

Hopefully when the results from the lab come back clean you can finally admit she is a clean athlete then.

Oontyex – Hey Ray, Do you understand the difference between ‘innocent’ and ‘not guilty’? Passing a test demonstrates you weren’t caught, it doesn’t demonstrate you were clean (which is only one reason why you might not get caught).

That sounds more like a jacksons gym problem with Mir, Jones, etc

Bullet in the Butt – Did you really think that was a smart thing to post?

About as smart as Wink accusing Cyborg a week before Jones failure was made public.

Then a representative of Phuket Top Team where Cyborg is training provided a wealth of detail, enough even to silence trolls, almost.

Fake news aside, here’s the first hand on the spot happenings of the situation.

As owner of Phuket Top Team I feel I should fill in some of the missing info. My Thai staff was made aware of several people believed to be “stalking” Cris cyborg, as they would not identify themselves.

We were told by our staff that 2 people checked into a hotel room next to cris and were acting strange by asking questions about them. Cyborg was placed in an exclusive location to provide her privacy while training at my gym.

Initially my staff thought the couple were just overly excited fans.

At 6am those people knocked on the door of the of Cris’s bungalow and the hotel staff notified my office of the disturbance.

The hotel staff told my front desk that they heard the people requesting a urine sample.

In Thailand the only people who do this are police. Unable to contact Cris by phone My staff rang the local police to ask why they would send people to her residence.

The police stated they had no knowledge of any officers at that hotel, and sent a patrol car to investingate.

It was after the police arrived that they discovered the pair was from Singapore.

Speaking directly to Cris they learned that the testers where checked into the hotel to do their job of collecting a urine sample for testing and not on vacation.

The police further investigated the situation to discover that neither employee had a valid work permit and when questioned both individuals from Singapore failed to mention they were part of any international testing agency, instead informing the officers on site they were only in Phuket for Vacation.

Allowing them to initially leave, the police later detained them upon reviewing paperwork completed during the testing. and later discovering that they were wearing uniforms and in the presence of work ID’s.

Cris cyborg complied with the entire process, giving her sample as she was unaware of the issues with them not having a valid work permit until the test was completed and the local authorities arrived to investigate the situation.

The issue for the police was two part.

First The Singaporean collectors made false statements denying they were here working and to collect urine samples. In Thailand the country is big on saving “face” and having two Singaporeans lie about their purpose on the island did not sit well with them.

Second since they were here working without a permit they did not provide the country with the proper taxes for conducting business in Thailand.

To further escalate the situation one of the testers attempted to offer money to the Thai police in exchange for them to be let go without incident.

Cris was uninvolved in the police and immigration issues other than providing answers to the police when questioned.

The entire process was started by the hotel staff notifying my front desk of a disturbance at our VIP guests residence and was further escalated by the false statements made to the police by the testing agency.

Morpheus1976 – first: Jeff works for the UFC not USADA. the rest I don’t understand why the police was involved at all. seems cyborgs team called the cops, since you got a copy of the police report.

Jeff is the UFC contact for USADA and a great resource for the fighters in communication.

I got the police report so that I know first hand the statements made. It’s public record, and with a bit of research I’m sure you could get a copy as well.

hopefully people take the first hand truth over the unquoted & untruthful stuff that gets posted.

its so often you read ‘sources say’ but who are these sources?

or is it just a way to throw a random bit of trolling for views/clicks etc.

potzdammerplatz – The police were called before anyone looked into their IDs. Also, PhuketTT’s post says (presumably from the police report): “they were wearing uniforms and in the presence of work ID’s. What I’m saying is, when an athlete is in a hotel and signed to USADA, and someone knocks on her door and says they are there to collect a sample, it seems really weird for the gym to respond by calling the police once the hotel has told them about it, much less to ask “why they would send people to her residence”. I am sure PTT knew that Cyborg was subject to USADA collection at any time and in any place. Neither the hotel nor the gym had asked for identification at this time. Wouldn’t the obvious assumption be “ah this is USADA”?

As far as I am aware, they called because the 2 people were guests. Asking questions about Cris and then checked into the room next door to Cris. The next day the couple were asking to check urine and hotel staff wanted to know who they were and why there own customers were asking other customers for Urine.

Potzdammerplate sounds a lot like Iain Kidd. Iain is still upset that Cyborg refused to work with him on a Diet Book, which is why he tries to slander her.

to give a bit of answer to his questions…

it’s presumptuous to assume the testing was done inside her hotel room. The actual sample was collected in the bathroom however the majority of the interaction with USADA was on the front porch located by the resorts hotel and observed by everyone, and because of that is most likely why staff from both PTT and the hotel had contacted police.

I do not believe the Thai’s have any understanding of what USADA is and due to the timing of the sample collection police had been notified before the western owners of PTT could be informed of the situation.

it is really a non issue. Cyborg gave the sample, and also requested the police allow the Singaporeans to keep the sample for testing despite the fact it was collected without a working visa from a company who should be familiar with legal working laws in Asia.
