DC: I go through a lot because of my biggest rival
Daniel Cormier’s career is haunted by Jon Jones. ‘Bones’ once defeated Cormier, but saw the title stripped for breaking the law, and Cormier eventually won the vacated title. Then Jones returned to challenge Cormier, but was removed before the fight after he took tainted, bootleg erectile dysfunction pills. Then Jones returned and defeated Cormier, but the bout was changed to a No Contest after Jones again failed an anti-doping test.
DC’s fight with Volkan Oezdemir was something of an exorcism, as he explained in an emotional in-Octagon interview with Joe Rogan. As Cormier was announced #AndStill, he dropped to his knees. Rogan joined him on the canvas, as asked how it felt.
“Joey, I’ve been through a lot,” he began. “I go through a lot of stuff, man. It’s because of my greatest rival. But it feels good to get back in here and get a victory.”
“You know, I’ve lost twice to Jon Jones. And I said, I said as I came into this fight, I said I felt as though I was fighting for a vacant title again because he beat me last time. And I fought for a vacant title and I got the job done. So I’m the UFC champion again.”
And the crowd cheered.
And Jones remained hopeful.
Thanks brother, my best is yet to come https://t.co/mlaIFAUfeo
