Edgar releases statement on withdrawal from Hollaway fight
As first reported by Brazil’s Combate Frankie Edgar suffered a facial injury in training sufficiently severe to need surgery. He has withdrawn from a title shot at featherweight champion Max Holloway in the main event of UFC 218 on December 2, 2017 at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan.
“Hit with a minor setback but should be back to full contact [practice] in six weeks or so,” wrote Edgar on his social network. “Thanks to the UFC for always having my back. Max, I’ll see you down the road.”
However, with the return to training from surgery many weeks off, the UFC is apparently not delaying the fight, but instead will find Holloway another opponent.
“Detroit, you guys are a bunch of tough mfers,” wrote Holloway. “You guys deserve the best fight card of the year and you’re still gonna get it. I’m fighting no matter what.”

The next question is who, and three obvious choices have stepped up.
