UFC 205 on Saturday has an embarrassment of riches in terms of quality fights. It is, in fact, the best ever. And UFC 207 on December 30 is headlined by the return of Ronda Rousey. However, UFC 206 on December 10 is a little lean.
The league had hoped to have UFC 206 be headlined by the return of former welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre, but that fell through. Current headliners light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier vs. Anthony Johnson could use a little boost.
Now UFC 205’s loss has become UFC 206’s gain.
The New York State Athletic Commission made the decision to keep Evans out of the fight at UFC 205 as a precautionary measure, as there were irregular findings in an MRI administered on October 19. The NYSAC directed Evans to take further tests, which the fighter reports that he passed, but in an apparent abundance of caution, the fight was canceled.
I’m healthy. I don’t want anyone worrying about me. I’m fine, physically speaking. Never felt better,” said Evans earlier in the week. “It’s just the commission and their rules. I guess they have a zero tolerance policy when it comes to this.
The fight has been moved to UFC 206 in Toronto on December 10, at middleweight. Both fighters reportedly got their show money for 205, and now have another month to maintain their peak condition, and get paid again. So all in all, if a fight has to be canceled, this is as good as it gets.
The sentiment was shared by Kennedy, who is not shy about criticism.
