Gokhan Saki vow to be UFC champion by next year

Monday, September 25, 2017

Kickboxing monster Gokhan Saki made a mighty UFC debut on Friday at UFC Fight Night 116. It was highly unusual in that it was basically his MMA debut, as he lost his only other MMA fight back in 2004, before he even knew the rules.

Saki showed tremendous striking ability, and opponent Henrique da Silva showed incredible durability. Then Saki appeared to tire, unfamiliar perhaps with the clinching that is so central to MMA. While Muay Thai can different but comparable clinching, kickboxing does not. It appeared as if Saki might lose when suddenly Saki ended the fight in an instant.

The knockout in Japan one of the high points of a weekend full of MMA, but a little short of notable moments. The light heavyweight ‘Turkish Tyson’ appeared recently on Ariel Helwani’s The MMA Hour to discuss it all.

“I will be moving to the US to start training there for a while and I hope to fight this year one more time,” said Saki, as transcribed by Adam Guillen Jr. for MMA Mania.

“Next year this time, I am fighting for the title and I am the champion. I will be fighting for the title and I will take the title. Give me that time, and it will be exciting, I promise you.”

“100-percent. That is in my mind and I have proved to myself that if I want something, I will make it happen. This is something that I always see in my career. At this moment This is my point. I want the title and I will take it no matter what.”
