Holloway to defend vs. Edgar at UFC 222 on March 3
UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway will defend his title against former lightweight champion Frankie Edgar at UFC 222 on March 3 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The news was first reported by MMAjunkie, and then confirmed by the UFC.
The pair were initially scheduled to fight at UFC 218 in December, but Edgar suffered a fractured orbital bone in training, and was replaced by Jose Aldo. Holloway defeated the inaugural division champ, extending his win streak to 12. Holloway’s last loss was to former division champ and current lightweight belt holder Conor McGregor in 2013.
Edgar meanwhile, lost to Aldo for the Interim featherweight belt for the second time at UFC 200 in July of 2016, but rebounded sharply. ‘The Answer’ first decisioned tough Jeremy Stephens, and then stopped the seemingly Next 145 Pound Thing Yair Rodriguez at UFC 211 in May of 2017. Edgar, now 36, may be looking at his final title challenge, and will undoubtedly give it his all, as ever.
