Lima vs. MacDonald on Jan 20
Bellator MMA welterweight champion Douglas Lima will fight former UFC title challenger Rory MacDonald on January 20 at The Forum in Inglewood, California.
“When I signed with Bellator, I made it clear I wanted to take over — multiple weight classes and multiple championships,” said MacDonald as transcribed by Lance Pugmire for the LA Times. “Douglas Lima and his title are first on the list before I move onto the next.”
Tickets will go on sale at 10 a.m. Sept. 29 at Ticketmaster.
MacDonald left the UFC on losses to Stephen Thompson and Robbie Lawler, but bounced back with a submission win over Paul Daley in his Bellator debut in May. Lima is on a three-fight win streak, most recently successfully defending his belt vs. Lorenz Larkin Decision at Bellator NYC on June 24.
“I haven’t been this healthy in a long time and Rory is going to be just another win on my record,” said Lima.
Bellator president Scott Coker, who put on Tito Ortiz vs. Chael Sonnen at the Forum in January, vowed fireworks.
“These two are going to put on an incredible show,” he said.
