‘Mighty’ Johnson: Silva’s wrong, I’m not the G.O.A.T. … yet

The greatest UFC fight of all time is Anderson Silva. He fought at another level, seemingly dipping into The Matrix when he felt like it. He moved up a division and devastated when he felt like it. And he’s Anderson Silva.

However, 2017 saw three other fighters – GSP, Jon Jones, and Demetrious Johnson – all make cases for the title. Now Silva tells TMZ Sports that ‘Mighty’ Johnson is the G.O.A.T.

“Demetrious Johnson is the new champion. He’s the best one,” said Silva. “I have my passion about my sport. I love when people are talking about this. Demetrious people need to respect because he’s a great fighter.”

‘The Spider’ was then asked point blank who the G.O.A.T. is, himself of Demetrious Johnson.

“I think Demetrious, absolutely,” said a smiling Silva, graciously, as he stepped into his vehicle.

TMZ Sports then reached out to Johnson for a response to the stellar praise.

“It’s awesome,” said Johnson as transcribed by Jed Meshew for MMA Fighting. “It’s always an honor when somebody like Anderson Silva [says that]. The status he’s got and what he’s done in mixed martial arts is amazing. I remember my first fight in the UFC. It was UFC 126: Anderson Silva vs. Belfort. I was there. He was main event. I like the guy. I think he’s had an amazing career, and he’s still going.”

“I don’t [think I’m the GOAT]. I don’t put a lot of stockage to that. Like I told somebody, once Jon Jones becomes reinstated, I’m sure he’s going to jump above me.”

However, Johnson believes that while he’s not there yet, he’ll get there.

“I do believe that I have – out of all the champions and all of the opposition I ever fought – I’ve fought different styles, so, it’s getting there,” he said.
