Tuesday, September 12, 2017

The tremendous UFC 217 on November 4, 2017, at Madison Square Garden in New York City, New York just got more tremendous, with the official addition of a third title fight. UFC women’s strawweight champion Joanna ‘Violence’ will defend her title vs. ‘Thug’ Rose Namajunas. Returning welterweight G.O.A.T. Georges St-Pierre will challenge middleweight champion Michael Bisping in the main event. And Cody Garbrandt will fight T.J. Dillashaw for the bantamweight belt.

Namajunas is 4-1 since losing to Carla Esparza for the inaugural UFC Women’s Strawweight Championship at The Ultimate Fighter: A Champion Will Be Crowned Finale on December 12, 2014. Namajunas is coming off a win over ‘The Karate Hottie’ Michelle Waterson at UFC on Fox 24 on April 15 of this year. The fight before that she lost a split decision to Karolina Kowalkiewicz, who went on to challenge Jedrzejczyk unsuccessfully at UFC 205 on November 12, 2016. Namajunas, 25, won performance bonuses in two of last five fights.

This will be the sixth title defense for the undefeated Jedrzejczyk, winning two fights of the night along the way. At age 29 she has become a major fan favorite, one of the most dominant champions in the league, and is in the minds of some the best fighter in WMMA.
