Poirier fight kit on EBay now for noble charity
The 2011 documentary Fightville centered on UFC lightweight Dustin Poirier and others trying to realize the American Dream in southern Louisiana. Years ago he moved to Florida, to train at American Top Team headquarters in Coconut Creek. Fighting is intensely self-focused, and is not well compensated, but ‘The Diamond’ is setting a new standard for selflessness.
Prior to his fight with Eddie Alvarez at UFC 211, Poirier auctioned his fight kit on eBay to raise money for Second Harvest Food Bank, a non-profit group feeding the hungry. The highest bidder paid $5,100 for Poirier’s shirt, gloves, cap, hand wraps and shorts.
Now Poirier is doing it again for his main event fight vs. Anthony Pettis at UFC Fight Night 120 on November 11, 2017 at Ted Constant Convocation Center in Norfolk, Virginia.
“I will be selling my fight kit from my upcoming fight at UFC Fight Night 120,” wrote Poirier on his social network. “All of the proceeds will be going directly to the family of Corporal Michael Middlebrook, A 9 year veteran of the Lafayette La police dept. Who lost his life in the line of duty earlier this month. He left behind a wife and 3 daughters. I will post a link to purchase immediately following my fight November 11th. Thank you all for your support.”
