Ranallo & Shamrock reunite in Japan for RIZIN

Saturday, April 15, 2017

Veteran combat sports announcer Mauro Ranallo and legendary MMA pioneer and former middleweight champion, Frank Shamrock reunite for the PPV broadcast of RIZIN – live from Yokohama Japan.

The event will air on FITETV on April 16th (Sun) 2:00 am ET / April 15th (Sat) 11:00 pm PT with a 1-month replay.

Mauro Ranallo first gained global fame as the voice of Pride for over 30 live events before moving onto Showtime MMA & Boxing as well as Kickboxing on ESPN 2. For the past few years, Ranallo has returned to his roots as a broadcaster in Pro Wrestling. His rapier wit and dynamic on-air style made him an instant fan favorite and in a short period of time was hailed as one of the best to ever do it.

“I believe it’s destiny that I find myself back in Japan at this time and I can’t wait to call the action in front of the sport’s most knowledgeable audience,” said Ranallo. “Eleven matchups comprise this event and I’m really excited by the RIZIN debut of Japanese star & former UFC Flyweight title challenger Kyoji Horiguchi. Horiguchi brings a 3 fight win streak to his meeting with compatriot Yuki Motoya who has reeled off ten consecutive wins. I expect a high-speed human chess battle will play out as they look to mute the other’s momentum.”

Ranallo, who is currently taking time off from calling Pro Wrestling, also has a documentary on his remarkable life in production. It chronicles his journey from a small town in Canada, to calling the biggest combat sports events around the world. The highly-anticipated project is set for a 2017 release; the year will honor his parents’ 50th anniversary.

Frank Shamrock began his career late in 1994 fighting Bas Rutten in his first pro match in Japan with the Pancrase organization. He is the only man to win titles in every major US promotion. Since retiring from fighting, Mr. Shamrock continues to work as a broadcaster and actor on television.

“Returning to Japan and working with Mauro and RIZIN is an absolute dream,” said Shamrock. “I have so much respect for the sport of MMA and the athletes who compete – it’s an honor to be asked to tell their stories and return home to where it all started for both of us. Tatsuya Kawajiri who is part of PRIDE FC lore, takes on fellow UFC alum Anthony Birchak who is moving up to Featherweight. I expect this match up to be a hard hitting affair between two well-rounded vets who have displayed the way of the warrior.”

Ranallo and Shamrock are close friends and broadcast colleagues who last worked together regularly on Strikeforce on Showtime which drew record ratings as the first MMA promotion on premium television.
