RIZIN asks for ABC help in official’s training

Wednesday, January 11, 2017

Officials training for PRIDE FC was supervised by the most knowledgeable man in MMA, Matt Hume. He has now taken his expertise to ONE Championship, and the “new PRIDE” RIZIN Fighting Federation has requested the Association of Boxing Commissions & Combative Sports to assist with the training of officials. They will be attending the training in California at the end of this month.

“The regulations and safety measures in Japan are several years behind the United States,” said RIZIN Foreign Affairs Director, Shingo Kashiwagi.

Their plan is to send a translator and official to the upcoming ABC officials training on January 22 in Los Angeles in order to begin the dialogue of following the ABC Minimum Standard Rules for MMA.

The ABC is currently partnering with several states to hold regional trainings enabling each area of the country to send its officials for uniform training and refreshers. ABC President Mike Mazzulli hopes Commissions and officials from coast to coast will work with the ABC to obtain the Gold Standard in training in order to enhance the safety and welfare in both boxing and MMA.

The training course will be January 22 at the LAX Hilton (5711 W. Century Blvd) from 8am – 5pm. Instructors include:
•Famed boxing referee and instructor Jay Nady;
•Boxing Judge Steve Weisfeld; and,
•MMA legend ‘Big’ John McCarthy.

Further, ABC President Michael Mazzulli and California Executive Director Andy Foster have now extended an invitation to professional fighters, professional trainers, or professional media from each discipline, Classes can accept up to 10-12 licensed fighters or trainers or media at no cost.

Those interested in attending should immediately contact Heather at CSAC at heather.jackson@dca.ca.gov.
