Ronda Rousey was the first UFC women’s bantamweight title holder, and then defended her belt like no champion in mixed martial arts history. The belt was bestowed upon her when the UFC started a women’s division, and Rousey defended it twice before hitting an extraordinary groove. She beat Olympic silver medalist Sara McMann in 1:06; that’s incredible. Then Rousey beat Alexis Davis, Cat Zingano, and Bethe Correia in a combined 1:04; that will never happen again.
However, on November 15, 2015, Ronda Rousey lost to Holly Holm. The belt thereafter went from unwinnable to unholdable. Holm lost her title to Miesha Tate, who lost her title to Amanda Nunes, all in the total span of eight months.
Now Ronda Rousey is back and will challenge Nunes for the title at UFC 207 on December 30, 2016, at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The pair showed up at the UFC 205 weigh-ins and had a staredown.
“She’s the fight I asked for,” said Nunes to Joe Rogan. “I’ve been training for this girl my whole career [in the] UFC. Now I have my chance to defend my belt against her. It’s going to be amazing. ARE YOU GUYS READY FOR THIS BATTLE!!?!”
At that point, Ronda Rousey had left the building.
